SMC’s story began in 1973 with construction supervision carried out for series of general cargo ships built for Bernhard Schulte (our mother company) in a European shipyard. Since then, SMC has witnessed and contributed to the remarkable evolution of vessel designs and shipbuilding technology, reflecting our commitment to innovation and excellence. Recently, we celebrated our milestone – surpassing a track record of 1,000 vessels.
Comprehensive Services Combining global knowledge and local expertise, we assist our clients in developing and executing newbuilding and conversion projects, offering complete project management, shipyard selection and audit, design consultancy, shipbuilding contract and technical specification negotiations, plan approval, construction supervision.
Proven Management System SMC has been a progressing company, focusing on development, implementation andenhancement of standardized systems, processes, procedures, and tools. Our newbuilding projects specific certified QMS has been developed and implemented in 2011 and evolving since reflecting experience gathered, and developments, trendsandrequirements of the demanding shipbuilding and shipping sectors. Addressing thecritical importance of our human resources in the performance of services, we haveimplemented systematic training schemes for project managers, site managers and supervisors. Advanced ERP, specific for newbuilding and conversion projects, was developed and implemented for all projects providing modern, electronic, efficient, redundant and safe document control and management tool for both plan approval and construction supervision. Providing our services HSE remains our top priority execution of which is driven by ownHSE Project Manual and supported through HSE functionality in ERP.

Global Presence SMC operates through head office in Shanghai, with a plan approval office in Mumbai, regional project management and business development offices in Tuzla/Türkiye and Geoje/S.Korea, and project-dedicated site offices across China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Türkiye, Poland, Norway, Netherlands, and Portugal. Over 400 of our professional supervisors work hard supervising construction, commissioning and delivery of vessels across 81 ongoing projects, ensuring vessels are delivered in compliance with contractual standards and requirements.
Focus on Türkiye Since 2015, we have been delivering services to Turkish shipowners for numerous newbuilding projects executed in China and South Korea. In addition, we have successfully completed multiple newbuilding projects for international clients in Turkish shipyards, which has enhanced our understanding of our Turkish clients' expectations.
Last year, we opened a representative office in Tuzla, led by our dedicated Country Manager, Mr. Huseyin Benli. Huseyin, a recognized industry veteran with over 22 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry, including 8 years with SMC, oversees business development and provides local support to our Turkish clients. His solid track record makes him one of our most trusted, experienced, and best-performing senior members.
