Samsung Heavy Industries has received an order worth approximately $494 million for two LNG carriers. Industry sources indicate that the customer is Japan's K Line.
South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it has received an order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from an Asian shipowner. The vessels, valued at a total of 672.2 billion won, approximately $494 million, are scheduled for delivery by the end of May 2029.
The order has been linked to K Line.
According to a report by Splash247 dated October 5, 2026, Samsung did not disclose the name of the customer. However, shipbuilding sources indicated that the order belongs to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), and the vessels will operate for Mitsubishi Corporation's subsidiary, Diamond Global Energy.
The price per vessel is approximately $247 million.
Current collaboration is expanding.
K Line held a naming ceremony for the 174,000 cubic meter capacity Diamond Gas Jade at the same shipyard in May. The vessel, owned through a joint venture and leased to Diamond Global Energy, was built to support the LNG Canada project; its delivery was planned for August.
In September, the company also held a naming ceremony for the 174,000 cubic meter Toho Emerald. The vessel, jointly owned with Toho LNG Shipping, is scheduled for delivery in October and is planned to transport LNG for Toho Gas.
Samsung's LNG orders have reached 20.
With the latest agreement, Samsung's orders for LNG carriers in 2026 have risen to 20. The value of commercial ship orders has reached $8 billion. Along with two floating LNG facility contracts, total orders have amounted to $12.4 billion for 48 vessels and offshore units.
K Line aims to increase its long-term contracts by identifying LNG transportation as one of its growth areas.
