SOUTH Korea's shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co has secured a US$920 million order to build six 23,764 TEU container ships for Evergreen Marine Corp by May 2022. The new vessels will be 400 metres long, 61.5 metres wide and 33.2 metres high. They will be equipped with its latest smart ship technologies for low fuel consumption and safe sailing, reported Korea Bizwire.
In July, Samsung Heavy Industries delivered a slightly smaller newbuild to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) with a carrying capacity of 23,756 TEU.
So far this year the ship builder has won orders to build 35 vessels worth a total of $5.1 billion, meeting 65 per cent of its annual target of $7.8 billion.
