Russia plans to import 200,000 barrels of aviation fuel from Japan via South Korea amid ongoing shortages due to Ukrainian strikes.

Russia is set to import 200,000 barrels of aviation fuel from Japan through a ship-to-ship transfer in South Korea as it struggles with shortages caused by Ukrainian strikes, reports Kiev's United24 Media.

Sources indicate that the cargo will be loaded in Chiba during the first half of July and subsequently moved to South Korea, where trading firms are involved. The fuel is expected to be transferred at Yeosu before being shipped onward to Russia, although the final destination has not been disclosed.

Reuters noted that this would be one of the few known imports of foreign jet fuel into Russia since the full-scale war began. The last recorded delivery occurred in February 2022, when 22,000 barrels were shipped from Yeosu to Vladivostok.

The imports highlight the impact of Ukraine's campaign against Russia's refining sector. Since the invasion, Ukraine has carried out at least 158 attacks on refineries, with 24 of the country's 33 largest plants hit. Each of those facilities can process more than one million tonnes of crude annually.
