RMK Marine has officially commenced the steel cutting ceremony for the next-generation LNG and Bio-LNG bunker vessel, 'Celsius,' at its shipyard in Tuzla. This project, developed in collaboration with Sirius Shipping and Gasum Group, marks a significant milestone in sustainable maritime transportation solutions.
Measuring 112.90 meters in length and boasting an LNG carrying capacity of 7,800 m³, the Celsius is designed to meet new standards that promote environmentally friendly solutions and energy efficiency in the maritime sector. The vessel will feature a 27.7 MW gas combustion unit, enabling other ships to perform cooling and heating operations in their fuel or cargo tanks.
Equipped with technology that completely eliminates sulfur emissions and significantly reduces harmful particulates through the use of LNG fuel, the Celsius also lowers nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. Additionally, the use of bio-LNG fuel, a fully renewable energy source, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over its lifecycle compared to conventional fuels, establishing the Celsius as a pioneering solution for sustainable maritime operations.
During the ceremony, RMK Marine CEO Dr. Utku Alanç stated, 'At RMK Marine, innovation always progresses alongside responsibility. With this project we have developed for the use of alternative fuels, we reflect our determination to shape a cleaner future in maritime transportation. This approach not only meets today’s standards but also aims to provide solutions that will protect our oceans for future generations by setting new benchmarks in sustainable maritime transport.'
Sirius Shipping CEO Jonas Backman expressed gratitude, stating, 'We thank all the employees of RMK Marine for allowing us to participate in this ceremony. We are delighted to be here. It brings us great joy to return to Tuzla to build ships after 20 years in Istanbul. We will work together for approximately two years and establish a professional and strong business relationship between our companies. Above all, safety will always be our priority. Thank you for everything, and we wish for the next two years to be wonderful.'
