No delays at Manila South Harbour despite surge in imports: ATIASIAN Terminals Inc. (ATI), the operator of Manila South Harbour, has announced that productivity has not slowed down this month despite the spike in container volumes in the run up to the holiday season, in a bid to allay fears that import shipments will face delays.

"It's the best December we've ever had at South Harbour. Cargo flow has remained robust and unimpeded, even as we reach this year's homestretch," ATI executive vice president, Andrew Hoad, was cited as saying in a statement by The Manila Times.

As of the first week of December, berth occupancy at the South Harbour is below 60 per cent, yard utilisation is well within international standards at 70 per cent, and there are no vessel queues at anchorage, ATI said.

All these indicate there is ample space for container storage and sufficient capacity to handle more vessels, precluding any delays in import shipments this peak season, it said.

ATI said 2016 is turning out to be its best operational year yet due to record-breaking volumes, higher terminal productivity and faster service delivery. In September alone, the port handled a record 100,000 TEU of international containers.
