Greece based Neptune Lines shipping company is expanding its fleet capacities for two additional car carriers. According to the Shipping Herald, the company has placed an order for construction of two new carriers with the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. Even though details on the value of the order haven’t been disclosed yet, the construction is estimated to be completed in 2013-2014. Neptune Lines is the transportation backbone of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea when it comes to car carrier market, with an integrated agency network and independently operated car terminals. The company’s fleet is growing steadily following the constantly evolving demands of the automotive industry. Presently, Neptune Lines owns and operates 11 Pure Car and Truck Carrier vessels, each with a capacity ranging from 430-3,200 medium sized cars. The fleet’s capacity for trucks is 10,000 lane meters. The average age of the fleet, per car carrying capacity is 5.6 years. The most recent additions to the fleet are four sister vessels, namely Neptune Kefalonia, Neptune Ithaki, Neptune Odyssey and Neptune Iliad delivered in 2009 and 2010 respectively. These vessels can be used for both transoceanic and short sea trade and they each have a capacity of 3,200 medium sized cars.
