The KHORYV cargo ship is capsized in the Black Sea, prompting navigation warnings and search efforts for missing crew members.
The Romanian Hydrographic Office announced that the commercial vessel named KHORYV continues to float in a partially submerged and capsized state in the Black Sea. In the navigation warning ARN 158/2026 dated October 27, vessels in the area were instructed to maintain a distance of at least one nautical mile and to keep a continuous lookout.
According to a statement from the Romanian Border Police on October 23, a fire broke out on the Comoros-flagged vessel approximately 13 nautical miles east of Constanța, leading to the ship capsizing. A nearby commercial vessel managed to rescue nine of the thirteen crew members; the body of one individual was recovered. The latest navigation announcement also indicated that three people are missing.
Romanian public broadcaster Radio România Constanța reported the incident as a drone attack. In contrast, the statement from the Border Police regarding the ongoing operation does not specify the cause of the fire or who is responsible.
The Bulgarian maritime publication Maritime.bg reported on October 27 that Bulgarian authorities are monitoring the vessel's movements and assessing possible interventions. The current official status differs from the initial reports that stated the vessel had completely sunk: KHORYV continues to pose a navigation hazard while capsized.
