A storm is forecasted in the Western Black Sea with winds up to 8 Beaufort and waves reaching 3 meters, prompting safety warnings for vessels.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) announced in the marine forecast bulletin published on October 19, Monday, that a storm is expected in the Western Black Sea. It was reported that in the eastern parts of the region, the wind could reach 8 Beaufort in the early hours of the morning, and the wave height could reach up to 3 meters in some areas of the western parts.
The new forecasts released following the strong storm that affected the Black Sea over the weekend indicate that caution should be exercised, especially for fishing boats, small marine vessels, and coastal transportation.
Wind in the Western Black Sea will reach 8 Beaufort.
According to MGM's three-day marine forecast bulletin numbered 292, dated October 19, winds in the Western Black Sea are expected to blow from the south and southwest at 5 to 7 Beaufort, and at 4 to 6 Beaufort in the western parts.
In the eastern part of the region, it is predicted that the wind will reach 6 to 8 Beaufort in the early hours of the day.
Overall, wave heights in the Black Sea are expected to be between 1 to 2 meters, with some areas in the western parts reaching up to 3 meters. It is noted that visibility may decrease during rain showers and thunderstorms in the region.
The strong storm warning ends in the morning.
The warning numbered 519 published by Meteorology on October 16 covered the storm with wind speeds of 7 to 9 Beaufort that became effective in the Western and Central Black Sea from the night of October 17.
The warning indicated that wind speeds could reach 75 to 90 kilometers per hour, and its validity period ends on October 19 at 10:00 AM.
However, the new marine forecast dated October 19 continues to expect a storm in the Western Black Sea. It is anticipated that the wind conditions throughout the day will differ from the strong storm experienced in previous days.
Fishing boats and small marine vessels should be cautious.
The expected strong winds and high waves in the Western Black Sea pose a risk, especially for small fishing boats.
It is crucial for vessels fishing in open waters to follow current meteorological forecasts and assess regional wind and wave conditions before departing from the port.
The decrease in visibility during rainfall is also among the factors that could affect navigational safety.
