    THE Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will levy a general rate increase effective February 1 on cargo from Dammam, Jubail, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to the US of $450 per TEU, $550 per FEU and FEU high cube

    THE Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will levy a general rate increase effective February 1 on cargo from Dammam, Jubail, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to the US of $450 per TEU, $550 per FEU and FEU high cube. 'Steamship lines are once again challenged to maintain service profitability since freight rates are at levels that are no longer sufficient given current costs,' said the MSC statement.

    And from All US ports of loading to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay on the east coast of South America, there will be a bunker recovery charge applied from February 1, there will be a $110 charge until January 31 and a $97 per dry TEU after February 1. On the same basis, but for reefer cargo, the charges will be $165 per TEU until January 31 and $146 per TEU after that.

    Said MSC: 'The bunker recovery charge (BRC) is monthly updated using a coefficient of 0.25 on the NYC/Houston & Santos 380 CST average.
