Maritime high schools gather at Piri Reis University on May 20, 2026, for the Istanbul Maritime High Schools Competition, showcasing student skills.
The event 'Istanbul's Maritime High Schools Compete,' which will bring together maritime high schools providing education in Istanbul, will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Tuzla Campus of Piri Reis University.
Organized under the leadership of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, hosted by Piri Reis University, and coordinated by Piri Reis Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, this event will see students from seven maritime high schools from different districts of Istanbul experience the excitement of competition.
The event aims to provide young people studying in the maritime field with the opportunity to showcase their professional knowledge and skills while also strengthening the culture of cooperation, solidarity, and professional sharing among schools. Within the program, students will demonstrate both their individual skills and their team-based competencies in various competition categories.
The competition program will include a total of six different contests: 50-meter freestyle and backstroke swimming, abandoning the ship/titration, removing and attaching nuts and bolts, rope throwing-rope handling, writing words with flags, and tug-of-war. Medals will be awarded to students who rank in the competitions.
Students from Ziya Kalkavan Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Piri Reis Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Pendik Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Hacı Rahime Ulusoy Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Beykoz Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Kaptan-ı Derya Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, and Özel Eryetiş Reis Maritime High School will participate in the event.
The event, organized in line with the understanding of 'skilled youth at the heart of education,' aims to enhance professional interaction among maritime high schools, strengthen students' commitment to maritime culture, and contribute to the training of qualified future mariners. At the end of the event, students are expected to gain significant experience not only through their competition performances but also through their contributions to team spirit, professional discipline, and maritime culture.
