DP World's London Gateway terminal processed over three million TEU in 2025, marking a 52% increase, driven by strategic expansions and investments.
DP World's London Gateway terminal processed more than three million TEU in 2025, a 52 per cent increase on the previous year, reports London's Logistics Manager.
The surge was driven by the opening of a fourth berth and the Gemini Cooperation's decision to use London Gateway as a primary hub for Asia-Europe routes.
Combined with two million TEU handled at Southampton, DP World's UK throughput surpassed five million TEU in 2025, accounting for more than half of the national container market of about nine million TEU.
Expansion plans include a GBP1 billion (US$1.36 billion) project to build two additional all-electric berths, giving London Gateway six berths capable of handling ultra-large container vessels. A second rail terminal opened in 2025 to boost inland distribution, while Southampton will receive new quay cranes this year in a GBP60 million upgrade.
DP World is also investing GBP170 million in the BOXBAY high-bay storage system, which will stack empty containers up to 16 tiers high, reduce rehandling, and free up landside space.
Stephen Whittingham, executive vice president for North Europe, said the investments will allow DP World to move goods more reliably, sustainably, and efficiently, ensuring resilient UK supply chains.
