Two crew members of the 'Spirit of Vancouver Island' have been taken to hospital after falling into the water during a morning drill incident at Swartz Bay on Aug 31, 2018. A cable broke while a lifeboat was being lowered and sent the crew men into the water from a height of about 50 feet. Both suffered minor injuries. B.C. Ferries was inspecting the lifeboat. The incident has forced the cancellation of two round trips between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen. The 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. sailings from Swartz Bay have been cancelled, along with the 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. departures from Tsawwassen with the Spirit of Vancouver Island. The vessel was expected to return to service for the 3 p.m. departure from Swartz Bay.
