    Karachi Port Trust reports a 2.76% increase in cargo throughput, reaching 55.44 million tons in FY26, driven by rising imports and container handling.

    Karachi Port Trust handled 55.44 million tons of cargo in the financial year ended June 30, 2026, up 2.76 per cent from 53.95 million tons a year earlier, reports Karachi's Pakistan Today.

    The increase was driven by imports, which rose 5.82 per cent to 35.91 million tons. Exports fell 2.44 per cent to 19.53 million tons.

    Dry bulk cargo posted the strongest growth, climbing 12.41 per cent to 9.06 million tons. Liquid bulk cargo also expanded, up 7.93 per cent to 13.35 million tons, while dry general cargo slipped 1.45 per cent to 33.13 million tons.

    Container handling reached 2.75 million TEU, up 3.67 per cent year on year. South Asia Pakistan Terminals Limited retained the largest terminal share at 59.6 per cent, followed by Karachi International Container Terminal at 24.7 per cent and Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited at 15.5 per cent. KGTL recorded the fastest growth at 7.09 per cent.

    Ship traffic rose to 2,115 vessel calls, up 7.36 per cent from 1,970 the previous year. The average cargo parcel per ship call fell from about 27.4 kilotons to 26.2 kilotons. Oil tanker calls increased 12.83 per cent, while bulk carrier calls rose 12.96 per cent.
