KONECRANES has been awarded a public tender by Copenhagen Malmo Port (CMP) to supply container handling equipment for a new container terminal in Copenhagen, reports London's Port Technology. The contract includes the delivery of eight hybrid straddle carriers in the fourth quarter of 2023, followed by two ship-to-shore cranes scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

This order was officially recorded in the second quarter of 2023.

The existing container terminal in Copenhagen is set to relocate a few kilometres away to Ydre Nordhavn, with completion expected by 2025.

CMP will oversee the operational activities and the machinery responsible for container handling at the terminal.

According to Povl Dolleris Rojkj?r Ungar, COO of Copenhagen Malmo Port, the new terminal aims to be future-proof, providing exceptional service to customers and ensuring efficient supply chains for Zealand. The port aspires to become one of the world's most eco-friendly ports by 2025.

Ungar stated that the hybrid straddle carriers from Konecranes offer the same power as fully diesel machines while significantly reducing on-site exhaust emissions.

In a separate development, Zuidnatie, a Belgian logistics company, recently placed an order for a Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane in Antwerp.
