The Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke called for action after the 'Alexander Maersk' dropped anchor on Pozzallo Anchorage near Sicily with 108 migrants aboard whom it was asked to rescue in the morning of June 21 after the right wing populist Italian government refused to accept the castaways. The ship was on his way from Misurata to Malta when the Italian navy late requested it to assist 113 distressed migrants which were saved on June 22 at 4:30 a.m. Both Malta and Italy have refused to accept the migrants with the exception of five people - children and a pregnant woman. The ship remained moored in pos. 36° 40.26' N 014° 53.49' E since. Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen however, has a clear expectation that Italy will take care of the many inmates aboard the 'Alexander Maersk' as there was a clear set of rules for this and demaned Italy to fulfil its obligations under international law. The Immigration and Integration Minister Inger Støjberg stated the Italian behaviour was 'untenable' and 'not reasonable'. The new Italian government in Rome has threatened with detention of ships that transport migrants.
