İMEAK Chamber warns vessels near Yemen and Yanbu of attack risks, urging enhanced security measures for members.
The İMEAK Chamber of Shipping has drawn attention to the risk of attacks on vessels navigating around Yemen and Yanbu in its circular numbered 1111, dated October 29.
The Chamber stated that it has received information from various sources and institutions indicating that vessels with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) turned off, or those for which sufficient information cannot be obtained, may be targeted by the Houthis. It urged its members to take security measures against this potential threat.
The letter from the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, dated December 20, 2023, indicates that Level 3 measures were still in effect for Turkish vessels navigating off the ports of Yemen at that time. The letter also covered Turkish-flagged vessels passing through the coasts and waters of Somalia, as well as the Gulf of Aden and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
