Sarıyer Municipality, with IBB's support, successfully cleaned seabeds at Yeniköy, Rumelifeneri, and Rumeli Kavağı ports to enhance marine safety.

Under the coordination of Sarıyer Municipality, and with the support of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Marine Services Directorate and İSKİ, successful underwater cleaning operations were carried out at the Yeniköy, Rumelifeneri, and Rumeli Kavağı ports. Following requests from fishery cooperatives, numerous waste items that damaged the propellers of boats and threatened navigation safety were removed during the underwater cleaning efforts.

In line with the request for underwater cleaning within the ports communicated to Sarıyer Municipality by the S.S. Yeniköy, S.S. Rumelifeneri, and S.S. Rumeli Kavağı Fishery Cooperatives, necessary discussions were held with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). As a result of technical inspections and field assessments, the underwater cleaning operations were successfully conducted under the coordination of Sarıyer Municipality, with the support of İBB Marine Services Directorate and İSKİ. This operation, which is of great importance for the sustainability of fishing and the marine ecosystem, meticulously cleaned up the accumulated waste within the ports and elements that negatively affected fishery activities. The cleaning efforts aimed to protect the habitats of marine life and ensure that fishermen could operate in healthier and safer conditions.

“PROTECTING OUR SEAS IS A COMMON RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL OF US”

Sarıyer Municipality Deputy Mayor Hüseyin Coşkun stated that they implemented these supportive activities for fishermen and fishery cooperatives living in close connection with the sea without hesitation, under the leadership of Sarıyer Mayor M. Oktay Aksu. He said, “As Sarıyer Municipality, we continue to support projects that contribute to the protection of the seas and the sustainability of fishing without interruption. Keeping the seas clean is a shared responsibility not only for fishermen but for all urban life and future generations. We value the strong cooperation established with all our fishery cooperatives and are producing environmentally conscious permanent solutions. Seeing the tons of waste removed reminds us once again of our call to protect and keep our seas clean. We thank all institutions and organizations that contributed during the operations.”
