The 'Wan Tong 158' ran aground on a reef in the morning of Sep 7, 2018, one mile south of Chiyu island off Shantou, Guangdong in the South China Sea. The ship was en route from Pingtan to Guanzhou. The foreship was damaged and breached. A rescue ship was deployed to the grounding site with the salvage work being supervised by the Shantou Rescue Bureau.
