In 2025, Gothenburg Port handled 934,000 TEU, marking a record high and a 4% increase, driven by expanded services and strong rail links.
The Port of Gothenburg handled 934,000 TEU in 2025, a four per cent increase on the previous year and the highest annual volume in its history, according to a Port of Gothenburg press release.
Officials stated that this growth was driven by expanded deep-sea services, congestion at other European ports, and strong rail links through Railport Scandinavia. Sales chief Claes Sundmark noted that the record volumes demonstrate the port's growing role as a logistics hub.
Rail volumes rose five per cent to 529,000 TEU, with more than 60 per cent of container cargo now moved by rail. Mr. Sundmark mentioned that this growth was fueled by increased shuttle traffic to Stockholm, northern Sweden, and hinterland regions.
RoRo traffic edged up to 525,000 units, while vehicle handling fell two per cent to 251,000 after a late-year recovery. Additionally, energy products throughput declined five per cent to 20.7 million tonnes following maintenance shutdowns earlier in the year.
Passenger traffic rose one per cent to 1.4 million, while cruise calls climbed 13 per cent to 63. Container volumes at Gothenburg grew faster than at Sweden's other ports combined, cementing its position as Scandinavia's largest port.
