On Aug 19, 2018, shoprt before midnight, a fire broke out aboard the 'Svyatov Spiridon' in Båtsfjord. All emergency services were alerted to the dock, and all 17 persons on board the ship were evacuated. Nobody was injured in the fire, The fire department noticed an increase the temperature inside the hull and sought for the assistance from smoke divers. A lot of thick smoke was emerging from the ship but it was blown out to the open sea, so there was no danger for the residents in the area. On Aug 20 short before 8 a.m. the fire rescue gained control of the fire. Work would continue for several hours to ensure that the fire was completely out.
