The 'Ava Pearl' lost power off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in the morning of May 27, 2018, with 75 passengers on board. The ferry had to be towed to Vineyard Haven after it lost power a quarter-mile from shore around 11:45 a.m. in 20 knots wind. The Coastguard was on standby during the incident. The cause of the outage was under investigation by the company Rhode Island Fast Ferry.
