The 'El Venizelos' had to be evacuated in the foremidday of Aug 31. During the removal of wrecked vehicles and the changed distribution of weight inside the decks, the water inside shifted and caused the ferry to list seven degrees to starboard side after having had a port list before. The ferry had transported 80 trucks and 152 vehicles. The fire crews and other workers aboard were alerted via loudspeakers immediately to leave the ship aboard which still fires were smouldering. Timber stored on trucks was still on fire. The firefighters had open another hole inthe hull of the ship in order to extinguish the fire.
