The 'Regina Seaways' got in distress with 335 people - 294 passengers and 41 crew members - on board enroute from Kiel to Klaipdea following an engine room explosion north of the Gdansk bight 90 miles off the Polish coast on Oct 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. The ship was adrift half way between Bornholm and the port of destinaation. There was no fire on board, and no one was injured, but there was dense smoke in the engine room. The fire alert system was activeated and crew and passengers assembled on the muster stations. The situation, however, was brought under control, and the crew started with repairs on sea in order to get the engine running again. The ferry had sailed from Kiel in the evening of Oct 1 at 8.50 p.m. and was due in Klaipeda at 4.35 p.m. on Oct 2.
