Families of sailors who lost their lives in maritime accidents have established the Platform for Families Who Lost Their Lives in Maritime Accidents (DKCKAP) to collectively follow legal, administrative, and social processes. The families of sailors who died on the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship, which sank after colliding with the vessel Alsu in the Sea of Marmara, played a leading role in the formation of the platform.
Families who lost their loved ones in maritime accidents came together to act in solidarity regarding the search and rescue operations, investigations, and legal processes that followed the incidents.
The structure created under the name of the Platform for Families Who Lost Their Lives in Maritime Accidents (DKCKAP) aims not only to unite the victims of a specific accident but also to bring together various families who have lost their loved ones in maritime accidents in Turkey under the same roof.
They came together after the Tuğberk İmamoğlu accident.
In the establishment of the platform, families who lost their loved ones in the Tuğberk İmamoğlu accident, which occurred on September 2, 2026, in the Sea of Marmara, were prominently featured.
The Tuğberk İmamoğlu sank after colliding with the vessel Alsu. Ten crew members aboard the ship lost their lives in the accident. Following the identification of the wreck at a depth of approximately 720 meters, families continued their demands for the recovery of their loved ones' bodies and for a thorough investigation of all aspects of the accident.
The problems faced by the families during this process laid the groundwork for the establishment of a more comprehensive and permanent organization.
“Not just a platform for 10 families.”
Recai Yılmaz, the uncle of chief cook Abdulbaki Mirzaoğlu, who lost his life in the accident, emphasized to BirGün that DKCKAP is not limited to the families of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu crew.
Yılmaz stated that they aim to reach all families who have lost their loved ones in maritime accidents, expressing that the platform will also work to highlight the deficiencies in the maritime sector and to prevent similar accidents.
Legal and administrative processes will be followed.
One of the important agenda items for DKCKAP is the monitoring of the legal and administrative processes conducted after the accidents.
Through the platform, it is aimed for families to act in solidarity with each other, to follow the investigation processes, to reveal responsibilities in the accidents, and to inform the public about search and rescue activities.
Families also demand regular and transparent information to be provided to them after maritime accidents and that search and rescue operations be conducted more effectively and in a coordinated manner.
Call to authorities.
The families of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu crew want operations to continue despite the depth of the wreck complicating rescue efforts.
The families are calling on the Presidency, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Coast Guard Command, and the General Directorate of Coastal Safety to procure the necessary technical equipment from abroad if it is not available in Turkey.
It is aimed that DKCKAP will address not only the Tuğberk İmamoğlu accident in the future but also the legal, administrative, and social issues faced by families who have lost their loved ones in different maritime accidents.
