A judicial investigation is underway into the Yalıkavak Marina fire that damaged 8 yachts, with potential losses reaching $150 million.

A judicial process has been initiated regarding the fire that broke out on motor yachts anchored at Yalıkavak Marina in Bodrum, Muğla, affecting 8 vessels. The Bodrum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the incident and those responsible.

On the night of the second day of Ramadan Bayram, a fire erupted at Yalıkavak Marina, resulting in the burning and sinking of 7 motor yachts, which ranged in length from 20 to 30 meters, while one motor yacht sustained minor damage. It is reported that the fire caused approximately 150 million dollars in damages.

Following the fire, the Bodrum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation. In this context, the prosecutor's office has appointed an expert committee to examine the causes and details of the fire.

It is expected that the committee will prepare a report regarding the cause of the fire after conducting inspections in the area.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Bodrum Regional Port Authority and marina officials are continuing efforts for cleanup and the removal of debris from the damaged vessels following the fire.

    INSURANCE PROCESS HAS BEGUN

Following the incident, insurance companies have also become involved, with separate damage files opened for each vessel. Experts state that the cause of the fire will determine the scope of compensation, and liability distribution will be made based on technical failure, negligence, or external factors. It is noted that the process may be complex and lengthy due to different expert reports and possible recourse claims.

The total damage is estimated to start at 70 million dollars and could reach up to 150 million dollars. The compensation process is expected to take 1 to 2 years, and it may be prolonged in the event of legal disputes.

SECURITY IN MARINAS BACK ON THE AGENDA

The fire has reopened discussions on security measures in marinas. Key issues include the close positioning of yachts, the load on electrical infrastructure, and the adequacy of early intervention systems.

Experts emphasize the need for stricter inspections, advanced fire suppression systems, and the implementation of mandatory safety standards to prevent similar incidents.

The fire in Bodrum is regarded as a significant warning indicating that risk management and safety policies in the maritime sector need to be re-evaluated.
