Evergreen Marine posts USD 790 million profit in H1 2026, overcoming market challenges with strategic initiatives and fleet enhancements.
Evergreen Marine Corporation has announced its financial results for the first half of 2026, reporting a net profit of USD 790 million despite challenging market conditions. Global freight rate volatility and geopolitical risks impacted the company's performance, but operational resilience remained a key strength.
Despite these challenges, second-quarter revenue saw sequential improvement thanks to seasonal demand recovery and capacity management. Evergreen also accelerated its green shipping initiatives, signing a contract with Samsung Heavy Industries in June 2026 for six ultra-large container vessels (24,000 TEU capacity) featuring methanol dual-fuel-ready designs. These vessels, set for delivery between 2028 and 2029, underscore Evergreen's commitment to fleet renewal and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the company sold and recycled older ships to optimize fleet composition and boost efficiency.
Currently ranked seventh among global liner operators by capacity, Evergreen operates 242 vessels (168 owned, 74 chartered) with a combined capacity of approximately 2.023 million TEU. Its order book includes 76 new vessels totaling 868,000 TEU, equivalent to 43% of its current capacity. With these additions, Evergreen's capacity is projected to exceed 2.8 million TEU, potentially improving its global ranking.
Looking ahead, Evergreen plans to monitor trade dynamics, geopolitical developments, and capacity trends, adjusting its operations flexibly. The company will continue advancing its green fleet program to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. Analysts suggest that if demand across peak-season routes in Europe and North America remains strong and capacity discipline is maintained, Evergreen's full-year performance could see meaningful improvement.
