DHL Welcomes First Tesla Semi to Its Electric Fleet

DHL Supply Chain receives its first Tesla Semi, enhancing its electric fleet and advancing its sustainability goals for 2030 and beyond.

DHL Supply Chain has received its first all-electric Tesla Semi, marking a milestone in its decarbonisation drive, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

The truck expands DHL's North American fleet of Class 8 electric vehicles to more than 150. The company aims to cut absolute CO2e emissions to 29 million tonnes by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.

The Semi follows a pilot in Livermore, California, where it covered 3,000 miles of regular routes. DHL said the vehicle averaged 1.72 kWh per mile while hauling 75,000 pounds over a 390-mile route, proving its efficiency on long-haul freight.

Jim Monkmeyer, president of transportation for DHL Supply Chain North America, stated that the Semi's range of up to 500 miles opens new opportunities for heavy-duty EVs. He added that the truck is now operating in Central California, travelling about 100 miles daily, charging weekly, and is expected to cut emissions by 50 tonnes annually.

Tesla's Dan Priestley mentioned that DHL's early support will help improve the Semi for global markets. DHL plans to add more units in 2026 as Tesla ramps up production, further aligning customer supply chains with sustainability goals.
