Coast Guard teams successfully rescued 13 sailors from the SVETOSLAVA, a cargo ship taking on water off Kastamonu's coast.
It has been reported that a commercial cargo ship flying the Palau flag, SVETOSLAVA, was taking on water in its engine room while navigating off the coast of Doğanyurt district in Kastamonu. The 13 crew members aboard the ship, which was at risk of sinking, were safely evacuated by the intervention of the Coast Guard teams.
The incident occurred during the night in the Black Sea. According to the information obtained, the commercial cargo ship named SVETOSLAVA, sailing approximately 26 nautical miles from the coast of Doğanyurt district in Kastamonu, began to take on water in its engine room.
As the water level on the ship rose, the crew called for help. Following the distress call, teams from the İnebolu Coast Guard Command were dispatched to the area.
All 13 crew members were safely evacuated.
The Coast Guard teams reached the ship with the TCSG-96 and KB-40 boats. As part of the operation, all 13 individuals on board were evacuated and brought to İnebolu Port.
The evacuated crew members were transferred to İnebolu State Hospital by ambulances. It was reported that the sailors, who underwent health checks at the hospital, were in good condition and were discharged after their examinations.
According to information reported by İHA, 11 of the crew members were Azerbaijani, one was Turkish, and one was Russian. After being brought to the İnebolu Coast Guard Command, the evacuated sailors were handed over to the medical teams.
The ship is currently anchored offshore.
After the evacuation of the crew, it was reported that the ship is anchored offshore. It is expected that operations to salvage the ship will begin once the adverse weather conditions improve.
On the other hand, the report from İHA stated that the ship, which was left without crew and was taking on water, was adrift at sea. It was noted that the security risks in the area where the ship is located are being monitored by the teams and that efforts related to the incident are ongoing.

According to ship tracking data, SVETOSLAVA is a general cargo ship with IMO number 8863343. The ship, which was built in 1971, flies the Palau flag. The ship's length is approximately 133 meters, its width is 17 meters, and its deadweight tonnage is recorded as 4,903 tons.
Investigations regarding the technical condition of the ship and the reasons for taking on water are expected to continue.
