Turkey's fishing countdown begins as boats prepare to return by April 15, marking the start of a legal fishing ban to protect fish stocks.
In Turkey, as every year, the countdown for fishing has begun this season. Fishermen who set sail on September 1st with the phrase 'Vira Bismillah' are preparing to close the fishing season as of April 15.
This date particularly signifies the start of the legal fishing ban for vessels engaged in industrial fishing using trawl and purse seine methods. With the onset of the ban period, large-scale fishing activities will cease, aiming to protect fish stocks in the seas and support the breeding season.
Throughout the season, there has been seasonal movement in species such as mackerel and anchovy, while low yields in some regions have also drawn attention. Fishermen generally assessed the season as 'average.'
After April 15, small-scale coastal fishing will be able to continue under certain regulations. The new fishing season will once again begin on September 1, as it does every year.
