CMA CGM has issued a rate bulletin announcing a uniform freight rate increase of USD 1,000 per container on services connecting Asia to multiple Latin American destinations, effective 15 October 2026. The adjustment applies based on cargo loading date.
According to the bulletin, the rate increase covers all Asian origin ports, encompassing Japan, Southeast Asia, and Bangladesh. Destination markets include the West Coast of South America, the East Coast of South America, the West Coast of Central America, the East Coast of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
With respect to applicable cargo types, the surcharge extends uniformly across dry containers, refrigerated containers, out-of-gauge cargo, and freight-paid empty containers, with a standard addition of USD 1,000 per box. CMA CGM has further noted that bunker-related surcharges, origin and destination port terminal handling charges, and security-related surcharges remain subject to separate application.
For shippers and freight forwarders with cargo movements scheduled on Asia-Latin America trade lanes in the near term, the 15 October loading date represents a critical planning milestone. Industry participants are advised to recalculate total transportation costs in advance and confirm final applicable rates directly with the carrier.
