China warns of countermeasures if the EU imposes new trade restrictions, emphasizing the need for dialogue amid rising tensions.
China has warned it will take countermeasures if the European Union imposes new trade restrictions, reported Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
The Ministry of Commerce stated that if Brussels introduces unilateral instruments and discriminatory restrictions, Beijing will 'resolutely retaliate and take effective measures to safeguard its own interests.' The ministry added that communication channels remain open and both sides are seeking dialogue.
The warning followed European Commission meetings on Friday to discuss potential economic security tools aimed at addressing the bloc's widening trade imbalance with China. No immediate measures were announced, but officials are expected to strengthen safeguards in sectors under pressure from Chinese overcapacity.
