CHINA, the world's largest pork consumer, can expect a 10 - 15 per cent drop in pork production this year, as African swine fever reduces domestic herds and tightens meat supply, reported Caixin. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs estimates of the decline in pork production is less scarifying, but this is disputed by the China Meat Association, which expects the short fall will be as high as 40 per cent.

There is currently no vaccine or cure for the disease and it has already spread to most provinces and regions across the country.
