China Eastern Airlines has placed a US$15.8 billion order for 101 Airbus A320neo aircraft, pending shareholder and state approval.
China Eastern Airlines has announced that it has ordered 101 Airbus A320neo aircraft worth US$15.8 billion, as reported by Caixin. This deal comes just days after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz raised the prospect of such an order during his visit to China.
The Shanghai-based carrier stated that Airbus granted it a significant discount, which is more favorable than the terms in previous purchases. Large discounts are common in the industry for bulk orders.
The airline mentioned that the deal remains subject to approval from shareholders and state authorities. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2032.
China Eastern noted that the new aircraft will expand its narrowbody fleet and cut fuel consumption.
