Cathay Cargo increases its Airbus A350F freighter order to eight, enhancing connectivity and supporting sustainability goals, says CEO Ronald Lam.
Cathay Cargo has exercised purchase rights for two more Airbus A350F freighters, raising its total order to eight aircraft, as reported in the company press release.
The Cathay Group is among the world's top five cargo airline groups by cross-boundary capacity, according to Accenture Cargo data. Hong Kong International Airport, its hub, has been ranked the busiest cargo airport globally 15 times since 2010 by Airports Council International.
The new-generation freighters will strengthen connectivity between Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and global markets while supporting sustainability goals. Chief Executive Ronald Lam stated that the investment reflects confidence in long-term growth and will provide more choices for customers.
Lam noted that the group has already committed over HK$100 billion to fleet, cabin and lounge upgrades, as well as digital innovation, reinforcing Hong Kong's aviation hub under the Three-Runway System.
The eight A350Fs will complement Cathay Cargo's 20 Boeing 747 freighters, which include 14 B747-8Fs and six B747-400ERFs. Bellyhold capacity is also provided through passenger services to more than 100 destinations worldwide.
Cathay Group has more than 100 aircraft on order across narrowbody, regional widebody, long-haul widebody, and large freighter types as part of its fleet renewal and expansion plan.
