Cathay Cargo orders two more Airbus A350F freighters, totaling eight, enhancing Hong Kong's air cargo hub status and supporting sustainability.
Cathay Cargo has exercised purchase rights for two additional Airbus A350F freighters, bringing its total commitment to eight aircraft, as reported in a Cathay Pacific press release.
The Cathay Group stated that these new-generation freighters will strengthen Hong Kong's position as the world's leading international air cargo hub. The aircraft will enhance connectivity between Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and other global markets, while also supporting sustainability goals.
Chief Executive Ronald Lam expressed that this investment reflects confidence in long-term growth prospects and supports Cathay Cargo's ambition to be the world's best air cargo carrier. He noted that the group has already committed more than HK$100 billion to fleet, cabin, lounge, and digital innovation upgrades.
The eight A350Fs will complement Cathay Cargo's existing fleet of 20 Boeing 747 freighters, which includes 14 B747-8Fs and six B747-400ERFs. Additionally, belly capacity is provided through the Cathay Group's passenger network, serving more than 100 destinations worldwide.
The Cathay Group has orders for more than 100 aircraft across narrowbody, regional widebody, long-haul widebody, and large freighter categories as part of its fleet renewal and expansion plan.
