Cargo ship sank in Black Sea, one missing
The "Anda" capsized and sank off Sevastopol in the Black Sea in the morning of July 29, 2017, 40 km south of the town of Alupka. The vessel with a cargo of wheat was en route from Kerch to Tripoli. Of the nine crew members, among them Syrians and Indians, eight were rescued, one went missing. An SAR operation was launched at 6.40 a.m, during which three crew members were picked up from a life boat, then another five from a life raft. The rescue was hampered by wave heights of 22 meters. The ship had been caught in storm after leaving Kerch port, notwithstanding a gale warning. By calling a Crimean port, the vessel had violated sanctions imposed on Crimean shipping.
