The C919 jet will begin international flights in August, marking a key step in China's aerospace ambitions, reports the South China Morning Post.

The Chinese-built C919 passenger aircraft will make its first scheduled international flights in August, marking a milestone in Beijing's drive for aerospace self-sufficiency, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.

National carrier Air China will operate the narrowbody jet between Beijing and Ulaanbaatar starting from 12 August, according to state news agency Xinhua. The service will run one round-trip daily.

The C919 has already been flying regular commercial services to Hong Kong, its first non-mainland destination, as China seeks to expand the aircraft's footprint beyond domestic routes.
