The bulk carrier NOTA APP ran aground in the Dardanelles due to mechanical failure while carrying 51,258 tons of grain. No casualties reported.

The Panama-flagged bulk carrier named NOTA APP, measuring 189 meters in length and carrying 51,258 tons of grain, ran aground due to a machinery failure while navigating the Dardanelles Strait during its turn at Kilitbahir, en route from Russia to Egypt.

Following the incident, the salvage tug KURTARMA-21 and the KEGM-8 boat, affiliated with the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM), were dispatched to the area. While the salvage teams took safety measures at the scene, divers conducted an underwater inspection to assess the condition of the vessel.

After the inspections were completed, the salvage operation was initiated.

    Safely Anchored

Upon the completion of the salvage efforts, the vessel NOTA APP was refloated and safely anchored at the Dark Harbor Anchorage Area in Çanakkale, under the escort of the tugs KURTARMA-4 and KURTARMA-15.

It was reported that there were no casualties or environmental pollution as a result of the incident. Authorities stated that investigations regarding the technical condition of the vessel are ongoing.

🚢 The incident, which occurred in an area with heavy ship traffic in the Dardanelles Strait, was brought under control safely thanks to a rapid response.
