The 190-meter-long bulk carrier named PILATUS MARINE, which was en route from Syria to Russia, ran aground due to an engine failure at Nara Point in the Dardanelles Strait.

Following the notification, the Coast Guard General Directorate teams quickly sprang into action. The tugboats KURTARMA-19 and KURTARMA-16, dispatched to the area, reached the vessel and took safety measures.

In a statement from the Coast Guard General Directorate, it was reported that a salvage operation would commence after the underwater inspection by the divers around the vessel.

As a result of the incident, ship traffic in the Dardanelles Strait was temporarily suspended in both directions to ensure maritime safety.

After the completion of the salvage operations, it is expected that the vessel will be safely floated and the strait traffic will return to normal. Authorities stated that developments regarding the course of the operation would be shared with the public.
