Boeing's Kelly Ortberg states China's 200 aircraft deal is just the beginning of a larger agreement expected later this year, according to Reuters.
Boeing chief executive Kelly Ortberg stated that China's commitment to buy 200 aircraft during US President Donald Trump's recent visit is only an initial tranche of a larger deal expected to be firmed up later this year, reports Reuters.
Investors had voiced disappointment at the size of the agreement, which was far smaller than the roughly 500-plane package sources said was under discussion before Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Speaking at a US conference, Ortberg described his trip to China with Trump as 'super successful' and noted that it reopened the market to Boeing's narrowbody jets for the first time in nearly a decade, following an effective freeze caused by trade tensions.
Mr. Ortberg expressed confidence that the initial order would lead to further commitments, calling the deal 'a good start' and emphasizing the importance of keeping the Chinese market open to Boeing aircraft.
