Buenos Aires and Exolgan lead Argentina's container traffic, with provisional data showing strong performance in the first quarter of 2023.

Buenos Aires and Exolgan remained Argentina's leading container gateways in the latest official data, although first-half comparisons are still provisional as figures for the country's two largest terminals have only been published through the first quarter, reports Miami's DataMar News.

According to Argentina's Ministry of Economy, the Port of Buenos Aires handled 245,336 TEU between January and March, while Exolgan, located in Dock Sud in Buenos Aires province, moved 156,676 TEU in the same period.

Terminal Zarate also reported only first-quarter data, with 21,090 TEU handled from January to March. The figures are not yet directly comparable with ports that have already reported full first-half results, but they confirm Buenos Aires and Exolgan as the country's main gateways.

Among ports with complete January-June statistics, Rosario handled 47,881 TEU in the first half, followed by La Plata with 11,728 TEU and San Antonio Este with 11,312 TEU. Puerto Madryn moved 7,905 TEU, while Puerto Deseado handled 7,193 TEU.

Further down the ranking, Euroamerica reported 1,352 TEU, Posadas handled 650 TEU, and Mar del Plata moved 317 TEU in the first half. The data highlight the continued concentration of Argentina's container throughput around the Buenos Aires metropolitan port system.

Argentina's port system handled 2.07 million TEU nationwide in 2025, underscoring the scale of the national container market and the weight of the country's main terminals in foreign trade logistics.
