A missile attack on the CMA CGM San Antonio in the Strait of Hormuz prompts Trump to pause the U.S.-led maritime security corridor.

Tensions have risen again in the Strait of Hormuz. According to data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a cargo ship sailing in the region was attacked by a missile on Tuesday. This incident has been recorded as the latest attack attributed to Iran following the establishment of a maritime security corridor led by the United States.

According to information reported by CBS News, the targeted vessel was the container ship CMA CGM San Antonio, flying the Maltese flag. Officials stated that the attack was likely carried out with a cruise missile, and initial reports indicated that some crew members were injured. For security reasons, communication with the ship was cut off, and AIS signals have not been received since Tuesday. The last known position of the vessel was reported to be off the coast of Dubai.

Following the attack, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary 'pause' in the maritime security corridor established under the 'Freedom Project' implemented in the region. In his statement, Trump noted that this decision was made to open up diplomatic channels at the request of several countries, particularly Pakistan. It was emphasized that restrictions on maritime traffic related to Iran would continue.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth described the operation in a statement at the Pentagon as 'a security gift presented to the world.' Hegseth stated that American naval and air assets have established a multi-layered defense network in the region.

Central Command Commander Brad Cooper indicated that the current system is much more comprehensive than traditional escort missions, stating that early warning, electronic warfare, and continuous surveillance elements are being used together.

As developments unfold, concerns about global trade security in the Strait of Hormuz are once again rising, and how the diplomatic process will progress remains a subject of curiosity.
