The 'Brother Sedat' of the Maritime Community Anchored in Eternity: YDO 83 Graduates in Mourning
The Turkish maritime community is deeply saddened by the loss of another valuable member. İbrahim Sedat Acarol, who graduated from the Maritime High School (YDO) Mechanical Department in 1983 and served for many years as Chief Engineer in the industry, passed away this morning after a prolonged period of serious treatment. Acarol's death has plunged the graduates of ITU Maritime Faculty (formerly known as YDO) and the entire maritime family into mourning.
From the Fırat Ship to Today: A Lifetime of Sea and Friendship
Sedat Acarol's life was almost a summary of the last 40 years of Turkish maritime history. The unshakeable friendships formed during his school years starting in 1979 have grown larger through the messages shared today. The most vivid memory among his classmates is the voyages they made in 1984 with the Fırat Ship to the snowy ports of St. John, Canada. His friends describe the deceased as 'a colleague who never lost his cheer even in the toughest storms, full of life.'
'We Were Supposed to Meet Just Yesterday...'
Following Acarol's passing, the class group turned into a sea of sorrow. Expressions shared by friends, such as 'We had agreed to meet yesterday,' and 'One can never associate death with any friend; every death is premature,' once again demonstrate how tightly bonded these special period graduates are. After losing his battle for life in intensive care due to severe pneumonia, Acarol's friends are keeping his memories alive with old internship photos.
Being Farewelled on His Final Voyage
The Maritime High School Alumni Association and prominent figures in the community also shared condolence messages, expressing their sorrow for the Acarol family. İbrahim Sedat Acarol's funeral will be held after the noon prayer at the Suadiye Mosque in Kadıköy on Monday, January 26 (tomorrow), and he will be laid to rest at Tuzla Cemetery. His maritime friends will accompany him on his final journey, saying 'Safe travels.'
