APM Terminals to buy two super-postpanamax cranes for Gothenburg
APM Terminals Gothenburg is purchasing two of the world's largest super-postpanamax cranes together with two rail-mounted cranes with tracks directly into the terminal, which is to be fully operational next year.
Today, there are eight container cranes, two rail-mounted cranes and five tracks at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
"With the new cranes we expect to increase production capacity 50 per cent. They will also allow us to handle more calls at the same time," said APM Terminals Gothenburg president Keld Pedersen.
The container cranes will be shipped to Gothenburg and will be built on site in October 2014, said a statement from the port authority.
APM Terminals took over operation of the container terminal at the Port of Gothenburg in January 2012. The concession agreement with the Port of Gothenburg included a promised SEK800 million (US$124.3 million) investment.
Said Gothenburg port CEO Magnus Karestedt: "APM Terminals' investment in the terminal is helping us to consolidate our role as the foremost freight hub in Scandinavia."
Other developments include the renovation of 900 metres of quays, construction of a large import warehouse in collaboration with DB Schenker and the planning of an LNG-terminal.
