APL's hi-tech reefers give Japanese perishables new global reach
SINGAPORE's APL now offers cost-effective transport that not only preserves delicate produce of Japan, but enhances market accessibility cheaply, the company claims.
"With APL's controlled atmosphere reefer technology, the transport of our freshest produce to different parts of the world is now possible with sea freight instead of expensive air freight," said food exporter Fuyo Trading president Keiji Tanaka.
"The export drive for Japanese agricultural products is set to escalate the globalisation of Japanese food culture," he said.
Through its range of SMART reefer solutions and diversified global network, NOL's container arm, APL, is assisting Japanese growers and exporters to access overseas markets for their fresh produce.
"As more Japanese growers take their produce beyond the domestic market, APL looks to work with them in bringing the 'finest harvest of Japan' to the world," said APL Japanese commercial chief Fujita Yasuhiro.
"Through our atmospheric regulating technology, SMARTcare+, APL offers the solution for quality preservation and presentation of fresh produce cargo over time and distance," he said.
Today, Japan's fresh food export market is largely in Asia. Connecting Japan with the key markets of Asia, APL offers the services of Japan Thailand Vietnam (JTV) and Setonai Kai Kyushu Express (SKX). These cover South China, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
By manipulating ripening rates through nitrogen flushing at the start of the process, APL's SMARTcare+ can triple the post-harvest life of perishables compared to conventional methods, APL said.
Said Fuyo Trading's Mr Tanaka: "We are delighted that our fresh strawberries and leafy vegetables reached Hong Kong in pristine condition."
"This innovative solution will help us expand our global footprint as we take our premium products to the stores across Asia as well as the Americas and Europe," he said.
