Determined through votes cast by industry stakeholders, customers, global shippers and readers of Asia Cargo News, the award recognises APL as the preferred shipping carrier for the trans-Pacific market with outstanding leadership, service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability in this segment category.
APL chief executive officer, Nicolas Sartini, said in a company statement: "Amidst on-going industry consolidation and evolution, APL has differentiated ourselves by providing shippers the much-needed predictability through reliable and quality services. APL will build upon this trust placed in us as we further pursue excellence for our next lap of growth."
APL's strong following in the trans-Pacific is apparent in its Asia-North America year-on-year volume growth of 34 per cent in the first quarter. The shipping line's market share in the trans-Pacific also rose to 6.7 per cent in 1Q 2017 from 5.2 per cent in 1Q 2016.
In particular, APL's Eagle Express (EX1) service that plies the trade between Asia and the US west coast has been maintaining a near perfect on-time arrival record at the port of Los Angeles.
Raising the bar of the EX1 service to a time-definite one, the shipping line offers Eagle Guaranteed, a promise of day-definite arrival of shipment on the EX1 service at six inland locations in the Americas from the Global Gateway South (GGS) Terminal in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, APL's Eagle Stow promises expeditious cargo availability within 12 hours of vessel cargo operation and ready-cargo on-chassis from the GGS Terminal in Los Angeles.
It marks a game-changer for APL when it further advances in the trans-Pacific trade with 18 services of the Ocean Alliance. Apart from offering the widest market coverage and superior connectivity from Asia the US east and west coasts, APL also transformed the Indonesia-US trade lane with its Pendulum Loop 1 - west coast (PE1) service, a direct service from Jakarta to the US west coast launched in April.
The ocean liner currently offers a total of 22 services in the trans-Pacific trade, including four services outside the Ocean Alliance. Also serving two of the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean, APL offers the weekly Guam Saipan Express (GSX) service that calls at the ports of Busan, Yokohama, Guam and Saipan.
