MEMBERS of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (PA) saw their cargo traffic measured in freight tonne kilometres rise by 4.2 per cent year on year in August to 6.1 billion.
The cargo load factor stood at 63.2 per cent compared with 64 per cent last year as capacity additions surpassed demand growth.
Commenting on the results, PA said the figures were firm and supported by broad-based economic growth, reported London's Air Cargo News.
'International air cargo demand [over the last eight months] increased by 4.8 per cent, although growth rates have moderated after the strong surge we saw last year,' said PA director general Andrew Herdman.
'Air cargo demand remains relatively firm moving into the peak season, even though growth rates have moderated.
'The escalation in protectionist rhetoric and the imposition of new [US-China] tariffs have so far had little real impact on trade flows but adds an element of uncertainty for businesses reliant on integrated global supply chains,' added Mr Herdman.
