AIR China Cargo has launched a scheduled freighter service from Guangzhou to Glasgow Prestwick Airport, marking the start of its UK cargo hub, reports Singapore's Payload Asia. The new service operates three weekly flights, expected to grow to seven freighter flights weekly between China and Scotland.
Air China Cargo will base operational and commercial teams at Prestwick to support UK freighter operations.
Glasgow Prestwick CEO Ian Forgie praised the airline's choice as an endorsement of the airport's cargo handling capabilities.
The inaugural flight was welcomed with traditional pipe bands and water cannon salutes.
Airport officials expressed optimism for growth in Scottish exports and trade lanes between Scotland and Greater China.
The partnership was celebrated at the Transport Logistics show in Munich with representatives from Air China Cargo and Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
