The "TK Bremen" is too damaged to return to sea according to the maritime prefecture of Morbihan. It will probably be dismantled on site. The ship is too damaged to be pulled out and may break and become a wreck.
On Dec 16, the vessel struck the rocks several times before coming to rest on the sand. Several cracks were located throughout the hull. The final decisio, however, is up to the owner, the Blue Atlantic Shipping Ltd. which will have to examine the cost of both options.
The prefecture is estimating that a repair to get the ship seaworthy again may not be profitable. Dismantling the ship will become a complicated matter, as the ship is suffering from the high tides twice a day. In the end the goal will be that the dune beach will be returned to its initial state for the Easter holidays. First an inventory of hazardous materials on board such as asbestos will have to be carried out. The vessel could then be cut and removed by trucks in sections once the tanksare emptied.
The captain of the "TK Bremen" was taken into custody on Dec 20.
